Snoop Dogg Shares Meme Calling Caitlyn Jenner a 'Science Project'

Posted by on in News

Snoop Dogg joined the ranks of public figures who've shared less-than-sensitive reactions to Caitlyn Jenner's transition on social media, sharing a meme Wednesday (June 3) that compares the coverage of Jenner's Vanity Fair cover with the coverage of Akon's charitable initiatives.

The image has a picture of Akon with the caption "Shout out to Akon! He is about to supply 60 million africans with solar power. Im really upset that this isn't major news but that science project bruce jenner is #Society." Snoop added: "News flash @Akon. Tune into ggn [his weekly online talk show] for some real news."

The Cleveland Cavaliers' J.R. Smith also shared the meme but has since deleted it. See Snoop's post below:

Iggy Azalea’s “The Great Escape” Tour Canceled Due to Low Ticket Sales

Today, all of Azalea’s fans who had purchased tickets for the 24 year-old hip hop artist’s “The Great Escape” tour received an email letting them know that the entire tour had been canceled.

The email gave no reason for the tour’s cancellation leaving fans completely out of the loop.

Back in March, Def Jam, Azalea’s label issued a statement saying that the tour had been delayed until September in order to give them more time for creative development of the production.

“It is bumped back because I am a psychopath … I would be making a lot of sacrifices and cuts and changes and compromises would have to be made to get this thing done in time,”Azalea told AMP 97.1. “So I really considered what I wanted to do: keep and honor the tickets and this date for fans but not the show I’d envisioned or kind I’ve promised them, a lesser version of it with maybe not so many people like jumping out of the ceilings and flying all over the place, or do I want to move it and have the absolute best show, the show that I envisioned? And obviously I’ve chosen to move it.”

Although it has not been officially confirmed, it is suspected that the cancellation was due to low ticket sales.

Ronda Rousey Addresses Controversial Bethe Correia Comment, UFC 187 Prelim Viewership, UFN Preview

- The UFC has released a preview for this weekend's Fight Night Goiania show, which features former Interim Champion Carlos Condit's return to the cage. Condit has been out for over a year with an ACL injury, and is looking to work his way back to a title shot. You can see the preview above.

- The UFC 187 prelim viewership is in, and the show did 780,000 viewers, just down from their average of 800,000. The show was forced to go head-to-head with the NBA playoffs, and featured top Flyweight John Dodson taking on Zach Makovsky.

- UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and her UFC 190 opponent Bethe Correia have had a huge war of words lately that turned controversial.

"Under pressure, she is proving weak," Correia told Combate "When her mom put pressure on her, she ran away from home. When she lost, it was because of drugs. That's not a superhero. She is not mentally healthy; she needs to take care of herself. She is winning, so everybody is around her cheering her up, but when she realizes she is not everything that she believes she is, I don't know what might happen. I hope she does not kill herself later on (laughs)."

This proved controversial because Rousey's father committed suicide when she was a child. Rousey took to Twitter to address the situation, and Correia later apologized.

Harriet Tubman Wins Vote To Replace Andrew Jackson On $20 Bill

Posted by on in News

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Andrew Jackson has a female rival for his spot on the twenty dollar bill.

Women on 20s, a group that has been campaigning to replace Jackson with a woman has chosen Harriet Tubman, the 19th century abolitionist who escaped slavery and led other slaves to freedom via the ‘Underground Railroad.’

The group tallied more than 600,000 online votes over the last few months, narrowing a long list to 4 finalists: Tubman, the late first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, whose act of defiance sparked the Montgomery bus boycotts of the 60s, and Wilma Mankiller, the first female chief of the Cherokee nation. Tubman was announced the winner Tuesday.

Women on 20s now plans to petition the White House. Their goal is to have a new twenty dollar bill in circulation by the year 2020 — the 100th anniversary of a woman’s right to vote.

“Our paper bills are like pocket monuments to great figures in our history,” said Executive Director Susan Ades Stone in a statement e-mailed to the Washington Post. “Our work won’t be done until we’re holding a Harriet $20 bill in our hands in time for the centennial of women’s suffrage in 2020.”

As for whether the White House will be on board, U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios told Fortune Magazine last April, “We’re engaging in a collaborative process to move the discussion forward.” She said Treasury Secretary Jack Lewis oversees currency design.

A bill was introduced to the Senate that same month to create a panel of citizens to address the issue of a putting a woman on American currency.

The U.S. lags far behind other countries. Britain, the Philippines, India, Argentina, Turkey, Mexico, and several other countries already have women on their paper currency.
